I have been fascinated by the shapes, forms and hues of the natural world since childhood. I was always drawing, painting, or coloring and wanting to "be an artist when I grow up". My favorite annual Christmas present was a new box of 64 Crayolas and a fresh pad of drawing paper.
Although I use varied subject matter, my interest in the human body has endured and deepened throughout the years. It has been my love to do the human form; I really get a lot from imaging a person. I feel like I know them and I merge with them.
My current love is watercolor; I like the magic it creates. As I use the paints, I don't have much control over how the colors and water and pigments flow together on their own. I can put a splotch of paint on paper and it will run and make configurations that I wouldn't have imagined.
The natural world is always an inspiration for me. The flowers and vegetables of my garden, rocks, trees, and organic forms abound on my land in the beautiful Sierra Foothills.
I was born February 7, 1944, in Roswell, New Mexico, and grew up in and around Venice Beach, California. An art major both in high school and at UCLA, I have studied off and on while caring for my three wonderful children, now all grown up and on their own. I've lived in many places, as far as New York City, and since 1979, in North Columbia on seventeen forested acres.
I have worked at many jobs - from caterer to event producer to jewelry maker. My current interests include being on the board of directors for the North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center, yoga, gardening, sculpture, being `grandma', working with my husband, Ludi, on musical projects, the nature of consciousness, and a deep search for our "real history" as humans.
I hope you enjoy my work.
